Indian Americans in the San Francisco Bay Area, including community leaders, academics and technology innovators, hosted a meeting last weekend to support Congressman Ro Khanna, who is running for re-election from California’s 17th Congressional District, which is located in the heart of Silicon Valley. He is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on June 2, 2026.
“Honored to have the support from Indian American leaders throughout CD 17, many of whom have been with me since the beginning,” Khanna shared in a social media post after the meeting.

Democratic fundraiser and political analyst Ajay Jain Bhutoria, who was among the Indian Americans who attended and addressed the meeting, feels that Khanna represents the district and champions its future. “He has been a tireless advocate for the Silicon Valley ecosystem, ensuring that the prosperity of the tech sector translates into good-paying jobs and opportunities for every family in this district. His work on the CHIPS and Science Act is a testament to his vision—bringing manufacturing back to our shores and securing our technological edge for decades to come,” Bhutoria said in a speech at the meeting.
He added that the Bay Area community supports leaders who “actually fight for us.” Bhutoria praised Khanna for showing courage in the halls of the U.S. Congress. “He has been a leading voice in demanding the full truth regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case, pushing for transparency and accountability where others stayed silent. He believes that no one, no matter how wealthy or powerful, is above the law,” Bhutoria said. He added that Khanna is also leading the charge to ensure the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share of taxes. “His fight to tax billionaires isn’t about resentment; it’s about rebuilding the American middle class and investing in our schools, our infrastructure and our children’s future.” Bhutoria added that Khanna’s district offices proactively support green card cases and inquiries.

Urging members of the community to re-elect Congressman Khanna, Bhutoria also lauded him as the only Indian American candidate with aspirations to run for president. “He is showing every young girl and boy in the Bay Area that there is no limit to their dreams and no office out of their reach.”
Other prominent Indian Americans who attended the event included Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan; Stanford professor Dr. Anurag Mairal; entrepreneur and community leader Khanderao Kand; and Yogi Chugh, commissioner, Fremont Economic Development Advisory Commission.
