An Indian B1 Visa applicant took to Reddit to share their application approval experience and provided a blueprint for other applicants.

The US B1 visa is a non-immigrant visa for individuals traveling to the United States temporarily for business purposes. It allows foreign nationals to engage in business activities such as attending conferences, negotiating contracts, or consulting with business associates. The B1 visa is often issued together with the B2 visa, which is for tourism and other non-business related activities.

The Reddit user’s journey began with biometrics on June 5 at the Delhi Visa Application Center (VAC), which reportedly took less than 10 minutes due to minimal crowd.

The user received their visa approval on June 13 at the Chennai U.S. Consulate, following a seamless interview process.

The Redditor had a 9:00 am appointment on June 13; they reached the consulate at 8:15 and were promptly let in. Highlighting the quick processing, the individual said, “9 am appointment, reached at 8.15am and was allowed inside at the same time. Process was very seamless, after approval I was out by 8.45am.”

During the interview, the Redditor was asked about their purpose of visit, client name, employer name, experience, sponsor, family in India and about their immovable assets in India.

The user pointed out that the responses were limited to one or two words for all answers except for the response to the question about ‘purpose of visit’, which required a more comprehensive answer.

They also pointed out that no documents were demanded. However, carrying key documents like DS-160 confirmation page, appointment confirmation page, experience letter, company offer letter, welcome letter, itinerary plan, salary slip, Form 16, marriage certificate, birth certificates of children and property sale deed was advised. Highlighting the need for caution, the Redditor said, “It’s better to be safe than sorry,” and urged applicants to carry all key documents.

The Redditor described the atmosphere as “pretty much silent” and revealed that this resulted in overhearing other applicants’ rejections, which made the user more nervous. The Redditor advised forgetting the surroundings and focusing on a one-on-one conversation, once inside the visa office.

It was also revealed that early preparation through forums like Reddit and AI tools like ChatGPT is advisable, however, overpreparation would lead to increased anxiety.

The Redditor ended the post with a promise to give back to the Reddit community and said, “Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences. Let me know if I can help in any way.”
