While Harmeet K. Dhillon’s social media feeds are a source for US Department of Justice policy and civil rights updates, they also offer a surprising personal and enigmatic touch. The Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights often shares her intricate knitting projects—a hobby the Chandigarh-born lawyer has turned into a viral hit with her online audience.

In her final post of 2025 on X, Dhillon treated her ‘fiber followers’ to a showcase of her extraordinary craftsmanship, proving that her creative talents are as sharp as her legal mind.

She highlighted the stunning, intricately detailed sweater she wore in the video—a piece she had just finished as an addition to her professional wardrobe. While the garment is a testament to her masterful technique, Dhillon admitted that her prolific pace has slowed since her confirmation as Assistant Attorney General in April 2025; previously, she had been known to knit at least one sweater every month.

In a ‘recap’ of her 2025 portfolio, she shared about 30 exquisitely knitted hats she created over the past year for those on her ‘worthy members list’ of friends and loved ones. Many of these pieces, known for their intricate patterns, have also been frequently documented on Instagram, where Dhillon meticulously details the yarns and complex techniques that go into each of her masterpieces.

Before she started serving as assistant attorney general, Dhillon had founded Dhillon Law Group, Inc, a successful legal practice with offices in California, Florida, Virginia, and New Jersey; and the Center for American Liberty, a nonprofit organization dedicated to pursuing civil liberties legal claims.

And alongside her high-profile legal career, Dhillon also found time for her long-standing passion  – knitting. In fact, her love for knitting goes well beyond a casual hobby. Way back in 2011, Dhillon founded Sea Ranch Woolworks, a boutique textile company based out of her home in Sea Ranch, California. The brand focused on natural, locally sourced and hand-dyed yarns and supported local knitters. Dhillon, then the chairperson of the Republican Party of San Francisco, described the venture as an expression of conservative values—supporting local agriculture and reducing reliance on foreign labor and materials.

Dhillon, who was nominated for her current job by US President Donald Trump in December 2024, began hobby knitting in 1986 when she attended Dartmouth College and has often mentioned that it is a way for her to manage the stress of her high-profile career.
