Andhra native found dead in Kansas

A fundraiser was launched to repatriate Venkatesh Doppalapudi's body to India after the fatal flash flood.

An Indian origin man was found dead in Kansas after his vehicle was swept away by flash floodwaters while he was traveling from Houston to his home in Omaha, Nebraska, authorities said.

Venkatesh Doppalapudi, 33, had been reported missing on June 27 after witnesses saw a vehicle being carried away by rapidly rising floodwaters in Sumner County, Kansas.

Emergency responders recovered the submerged vehicle but were unable to locate the driver during the initial search. The operation was suspended overnight before resuming June 38, when search crews recovered Doppalapudi's body.

According to reports, rescue personnel from multiple agencies participated in the search effort, which was complicated by dangerous flood conditions.

According to a GoFundMe campaign launched by friends, Doppalapudi had moved to the United States to pursue higher education and a better future for his family. After completing his master's degree, he was building his career under the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program.

"Venkatesh came to the United States with a dream of building a better future for himself and his family. He was kind, humble, hardworking, and respected everyone around him," the fundraiser states.

The campaign said funds raised will   help bring Venkatesh Doppalapudi home to India so his family can perform his final rites. and provide immediate financial assistance to his family.

"Venkatesh was more than a friend to many of us–he was family. He touched countless lives with his kindness, sincerity, and willingness to help others. He will always be remembered and deeply missed," the campaign said.

At the time of  publication, the fundraiser had raised $44,819, or about 36 percent of its $125,000 goal.
