Indian-origin sustainability leader Amita Chaudhury was appointed Chair of the Board of the Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) under the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), becoming the first woman of Indian origin to hold the position.
Chaudhury, who currently serves as Group Head of Sustainability at American International Assurance., earlier served as vice-chair of the PSI Board.

“Amita brings extensive leadership experience in advancing sustainability across the insurance sector. We look forward to her guidance in strengthening the PSI’s strategic direction and supporting its global community of signatories,” UNEP FI said in a statement announcing her appointment.
Headquartered in Geneva, UNEP FI is a global partnership between the United Nations and the financial sector, with more than 500 members, including banks, insurers, and investors. The PSI initiative, which Chaudhury now chairs, counts nearly 300 members worldwide and seeks to embed sustainability in insurance practices to address environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges.
An alumna of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Chaudhury has spent over two decades leading brand, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability teams across Asia, Europe, and India.
Prior to joining AIA, Chaudhury held senior roles at Unilever, including Global Director for Diversity and Inclusion and Head of Sustainable Business for South East Asia and Australasia. She also served as Senior Advisor on sustainability learning at the United Nations Global Compact.
She has been recognised with the Leading Women Award for Sustainable Development by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and is the author of Working Mothers, Happy Kids.
