Amb. Kwatra strengthens education, business ties during Atlanta visit

India's Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, concluded a three-day visit to Atlanta on Aug. 4, underscoring efforts to deepen the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
The visit began Aug. 2 with a community reception attended by about 200 prominent members of the Indian diaspora. Addressing the gathering, Kwatra praised the community for its contributions to both the United States and India, describing Indian Americans as an important bridge in strengthening bilateral ties.

The event also honored Padma Bhushan awardee and internationally recognized marketing scholar Jagdish Sheth for his more than six decades of contributions to academia and India-U.S. people-to-people relations.
On Aug. 3, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta hosted an education roundtable with leaders from nearly 20 universities across the southeastern United States, including the Georgia Institute of Technology, Emory University, Vanderbilt University and the University of Florida.
Kwatra highlighted opportunities to expand collaboration through joint research, faculty and student exchanges, dual-degree programs and innovation partnerships. He also encouraged U.S. institutions to explore opportunities under India's National Education Policy 2020 and its framework for foreign universities establishing campuses in India.
During the visit, Kwatra met with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, congratulating him on the state's economic growth and thanking him for supporting Georgia's Indian American community.
The ambassador also addressed a business reception jointly hosted by the Consulate General of India in Atlanta and the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum. The event brought together more than 35 senior executives from leading companies, including The Home Depot, UPS, Delta Air Lines, The Coca-Cola Co. and AGCO.
Kwatra also pointed to investments by Indian companies such as Novelis and Birla Carbon, emphasizing the southeastern United States' role in advancing the shared goal of reaching $500 billion in bilateral trade.
The visit reinforced the southeastern United States' growing strategic importance in advancing cooperation between India and the United States in education, trade, investment, innovation and people-to-people ties.
