314 Action Fund backs Hanu Karpalem’s campaign
Karlapalem will challenge two-term Republican incumbent Rep. Parker Moore in the Nov. 3 general election for Alabama House District 4.

Indian American Democratic candidate Hanu Karlapalem, who is running for Alabama State House District 4, has received the endorsement of the 314 Action Fund, a national political organization that backs candidates with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Karlapalem, who is challenging two-term Republican incumbent Rep. Parker Moore in the Nov. 3 general election, said the endorsement reflects his decades of experience in engineering and technology and highlights the importance of technical expertise in public office.
“North Alabama has one of the highest concentrations of STEM professionals in the country. HD4 deserves a legislator who reflects that in Montgomery,” Karlapalem said in a statement.
Describing the endorsement as recognition of his experience rather than politics, Karlapalem said his background in solving complex technical challenges would guide his work if elected.
“This is not about politics. This is about competence. I’ve spent over 35 years solving hard technical problems for real clients. That is the kind of leadership I will bring to Montgomery, not talking points,” Karlapalem said.
Karlapalem's campaign said he has not accepted political action committee funding and has relied exclusively on contributions from individual donors. Earlier this year, he received the 2026 Gun Sense Candidate Distinction Award from Moms Demand Action and the endorsement of the Alabama Democratic County Party Chairs Association.
The Nov. 3 general election will determine representation for Alabama House District 4, which includes parts of Madison, Limestone and Morgan counties.
A Madison resident for 26 years, Karlapalem has spent more than 35 years as a small business owner, including over 18 years in information technology systems, cloud computing and cybersecurity as founder and chief executive officer of Vinhamz Inc., a Madison-based technology services company.
Earlier in his career, he operated businesses specializing in air purification, pollution control systems, industrial lighting and oil reclamation.
He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Delhi College of Engineering, now Delhi Technological University, and a master's degree in management information systems from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
