A bipartisan group of 15 U.S. lawmakers urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 24 to take immediate steps to resolve significant delays in student visa appointments for Indian nationals, warning that the disruptions could prevent hundreds of students from reaching the United States in time for the upcoming academic semester.
In a letter dated July 24, the lawmakers expressed concern over reports from universities in their districts that Indian students—who make up the largest group of international students in the U.S.—are facing roadblocks in obtaining visas due to appointment backlogs and limited availability at American embassies and consulates in India.
