India and Pakistan have been in the crosshairs for the nearly eight decades since they were carved out of partition by the British Raj.

With four wars, including the first war of Kashmir in 1947, the recent conflagration in South Asia, brought back fears of the last two decades – the inherent dangers when two nuclear adversaries square off.

As a picturesque Pahalgam turned bloody as innocent tourists and civilians, lost their lives on the April 22nd terror attacks, the Indian military forces carried out ‘Operation Sindoor’, on May 7, missile strikes on nine targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir targeting groups that receive patronage from the Pakistani mil-establishment.

As the conflict escalated with both militaries claiming to have hit targets across the border, a reluctant Washington stepped in to announce an immediate ceasefire and temporary end to hostilities.
