Democratic lawmakers are raising alarms after President Donald Trump moved to dismiss officials and board members across multiple independent agencies this month, calling the actions politically motivated and harmful to public interest.
Representative Ami Bera (D-CA) denounced Trump’s firing of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Susan Monarez on Aug. 27, less than a month after her Senate confirmation. Monarez’s departure followed disputes with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over vaccine policy and was followed by the resignations of several senior CDC officials.

“RFK Jr. is driving out dedicated public health experts because they refuse to rubber-stamp his dangerous views on vaccines,” Bera said. “These experts are our first line of defense against outbreaks and emerging threats. Their resignations make clear that they are no longer being allowed to do their jobs to protect the health and safety of the American people.”
Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) condemned Trump’s decision to dismiss nearly the entire Puerto Rico Fiscal Oversight and Management Board (FOMB), which was created under the 2016 PROMESA law to manage the island’s budget and debt restructuring.

Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) criticized Trump’s attempt to remove Robert Primus from the Surface Transportation Board, calling it “just this administration’s latest giveaway to Wall Street and the Big Railroads.”

In a joint statement with the Monopoly Busters Caucus, Reps. Chris Deluzio (D-PA), Pat Ryan (D-NY), and Angie Craig (D-MN), Jayapal said the move undermines regulatory independence and announced their collective opposition to the action.
According to recent reports, Trump has dismissed or attempted to dismiss more than a dozen senior officials across independent agencies in August alone, in what critics describe as an escalating campaign to reshape regulatory and oversight bodies with loyalists.
