President Donald Trump on Oct. 6 tied America’s growing military power to what he called a “revival of faith,” announcing a new national prayer initiative, a day after he celebrated the Navy’s 250th anniversary at the world’s most extensive naval base in Virginia.

Trump said the nation’s resurgence—both in spirit and strength—was visible in surging enlistments, renewed patriotism, and a return to faith. “If a country doesn’t have religion, doesn’t have faith, doesn’t have God, it’s going to be very hard to be a good country,” he said. “You want to be good because you want to prove to God that you’re good.”
