ST Engineering iDirect elevates Sridhar Kuppanna as CEO
Former CTO Kuppanna takes over after leading technology and product strategy at the company.

ST Engineering iDirect has appointed Sridhar Kuppanna as chief executive officer, elevating a longtime engineering and product leader to the top role at the satellite communications company.
Kuppanna succeeds Don Claussen, the company said. He had most recently been serving as CTO, where he oversaw the company’s technology roadmap and product strategy, including work on cloud-native systems, multi-orbit connectivity, AI-driven network automation and 5G non-terrestrial networks.

The company said Kuppanna will continue to lead execution of its Intuition-led modernization strategy, as well as delivery, operations and broader business execution.
Kuppanna joined ST Engineering iDirect in October 2023 as senior vice president of engineering, a role in which he was responsible for new product introduction and global operations. He was promoted in February 2025 to CTO and senior vice president of engineering and product strategy.
Before joining ST Engineering iDirect, Kuppanna was vice president of engineering at Ribbon Communications from 2020 to 2023. He had earlier served as senior director of engineering at the company from 2017 to 2020.
Prior to that, he spent 16 years at Sonus, where he held a range of engineering roles including director of software engineering, senior manager of software engineering, distinguished software engineer, principal software engineer and senior software engineer.
Earlier in his career, he worked at Xybridge/Zhone Technologies Inc. and Ind-Telesoft Pvt Ltd.
Kuppanna’s professional background has been concentrated in software engineering, telecommunications infrastructure and network systems, with experience spanning engineering management, product development and operations.
Kuppanna holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from University of Madras and a master’s degree in computer applications from Alagappa University. He also completed the Global C-Suite Program at Wharton Executive Education.
