The first qualifier of the 2025 Cognizant Major League Cricket (MLC) season between Washington Freedom and Texas Super Kings was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to persistent rainfall at Grand Prairie Stadium on July 8.
As per tournament regulations, Washington Freedom, who concluded the league stage with a superior position on the points table, automatically advanced to the final of the 2025 MLC season. Their consistent performance throughout the group phase ensured their progression in the event of an abandoned playoff fixture.
The Texas Super Kings, who secured second place in the standings, retain an opportunity to reach the final. They will compete in Qualifier 2 on July 11, against the winner of the Eliminator match between San Francisco Unicorns and MI New York, scheduled to be held on July 9. The victor of that encounter will join Washington Freedom in the final on July 13.
Washington Freedom will now prepare for the championship match, while the Texas Super Kings must refocus for a crucial knockout contest.
