Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey: India sets up summit clash with Belgium
India now looks forward to avenging its earlier pool game defeat in the gold medal match.

After trouncing Canada 14-3 in its last league encounter, India has set up its summit clash with former World Cup champions Belgium in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament in Ipoh on Nov. 30.
Belgium defeated New Zealand 5-1 to remain the only undefeated team in the six-team round robin league with four wins and a draw, while India won four and lost one game. India was beaten by Belgium 2-3.
Playing without some of its star players, including captain and drag flicker Harmanpreet Singh, midfielder Manpreet Singh, and playmaker Hardik Singh, India now looks forward to avenging its earlier pool game defeat in the gold medal match.
Belgium started the tournament on a pleasant note, defeating the hosts, Malaysia, 9-1, while India overcame a stiff resistance from New Zealand before winning 3-2.
Canada, playing with seven players of Indian descent, had one of its best tournaments in the recent past. After defeating Korea 3-2 in its first game, Canada lost its next two games—2-4 to New Zealand and 2-3 to Malaysia—before pulling out a major surprise in holding the pre-tournament favorite, Belgium, to a 1-1 draw.
In its last game against India, Canada got its worst-ever drubbing, losing 3-14.
After defeating New Zealand 3-2 in its first game, India met another tough opponent in the hosts, Malaysia, in its second game. India struggled to win 4-3 in a game of fluctuating fortunes.
India met its Waterloo in the third game when it lost to Belgium 2-3.
Against its continental rival, Korea, India managed a solitary goal win to remain in the hunt for a place in the gold medal match. In its last pool game, India went full blast to trounce Canada 14-3.
On Nov. 30, Canada will play Korea for fifth and sixth place, while Malaysia will take on New Zealand for the bronze medal game. India and Belgium play for the gold medal match in the final game of the tournament.
