American doubles specialist Rajeev Ram, 41, won the men’s doubles title at the 2025 Cincinnati Open alongside Nikola Mektic, defeating Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego and Lorenzo Musetti 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 in the final. With this victory, Ram added another Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Masters 1000 crown to his record, underlining his longevity in a sport where few play at the top level into their forties.

American entrepreneur and politician Vivek Ramaswamy congratulated him on social media, recalling their early encounters on the junior circuit. “Congrats to my friend Rajeev Ram on winning the men’s doubles ATP title in Cincinnati this year, incredibly at age 41,” he wrote. Ramaswamy added, “He was the top junior in the Midwest back when I competed in the same tournaments. He’s gone on to win 6 grand slams and a silver medal for Team USA at the Olympics. Proud of you man!”

Ramaswamy, who founded the biopharmaceutical company Roivant Sciences in 2014 and led it until 2021, described Ram’s career as an inspiration, citing both his achievements and resilience over two decades in professional tennis.

Born in Colorado in 1984, Ram turned professional in 2004 after a short but successful stint at the University of Illinois, where he contributed to an NCAA team title. While he initially played singles, winning two ATP Tour titles in Newport and reaching a career-high ranking of No. 56 in 2016—he established himself as one of the most accomplished doubles players of his era after switching focus in 2017.

His resume includes six Grand Slam trophies: the 2020 Australian Open doubles title, three consecutive US Open doubles wins from 2021 to 2023 with Joe Salisbury, and two Australian Open mixed doubles titles with Barbora Krejcikova. Ram reached world No. 1 in doubles in October 2022 and has twice won the ATP Finals, in 2022 and 2023. On the Olympic stage, he partnered Venus Williams to win a silver medal in mixed doubles at Rio 2016 and claimed another silver in men’s doubles at Paris 2024 with Austin Krajicek.

Ram also contributes to the sport through the Rajeev Ram Foundation, which promotes tennis development in Indiana and organizes the Indy Challenger tournament.
