LA Knight Riders eye MLC playoffs berth

Andre Fletcher and Matthew Tromp struck half-centuries to set up the victory.

LA Knight Riders defeated Washington Freedom by 18 runs in a Major League Cricket match at Grand Prairie, Texas, on July 10 to strengthen their push for a playoff berth.

The Team recovered from an early setback to post 192/8, with Andre Fletcher scoring 59 off 40 balls and Matthew Tromp adding 50 off 32 in a 110-run partnership for the third wicket. The pair steadied the innings after LAKR slipped to 17/2 inside the opening two overs.

Fletcher struck four fours and three sixes before falling in the 14th over, while Tromp reached his half-century in 29 balls. Saif Badar then added a quick 24 off 12 deliveries and Jahmar Hamilton contributed 22 from 12 balls to lift LAKR past the 190-run mark. For Washington Freedom, Saurabh Netravalkar returned 3/33, while Ben Dwarshuis claimed 2/37 and Mitchell Owen picked up 2/30.

Washington Freedom's chase was dented by the loss of three wickets for just 10 runs during the powerplay. Mitchell Owen made 17 before falling to Sunil Narine, while Steven Smith was dismissed for 8 and Rachin Ravindra for 4 as Freedom slipped to 41/3.

Andries Gous tried to revive the chase with 37 off 24 balls before Lahiru Milantha added 40 from 25 deliveries. However, both batters fell in the 14th over, leaving Freedom at 117/5. Nikhil Chaudhary scored 17, Ben Dwarshuis struck 19 off nine balls with two sixes, and Obus Pienaar remained unbeaten on 18, but Freedom finished on 174/8.

Narine produced an economical spell of 1/14 from four overs, while Andre Russell claimed 3/34 and Ali Khan returned 2/18 as LA Knight Riders successfully defended their total.

The victory keeps LA Knight Riders firmly in contention for a Major League Cricket playoff berth as the league stage enters its closing phase, while Washington Freedom will look to regroup ahead of its remaining fixtures.
