University of Nebraska Omaha names Gurpreet Dhillon business admin dean

He will take over as dean of UNO’s College of Business Administration in Jan. 2026, bringing global academic and research leadership to the institution.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha has named Indian-American professor Gurpreet S. Dhillon as the next dean of the College of Business Administration.

The appointment is scheduled to begin Jan. 12, 2026, pending approval by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.

Dhillon, currently a professor in the department of information technology and decision sciences at the University of North Texas (UNT), where he also holds the G. Brint Ryan Endowed Chair of AI and Cybersecurity, joins UNO with more than 20 years of international experience in business education, research leadership, and technological innovation across the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, Phil He said Dhillon brings "a rare blend of scholarly distinction, innovative vision, and global leadership," adding that his work at the intersection of business, technology, and society positions him strongly to advance UNO’s metropolitan mission.

Dhillon said UNO’s focus on access, innovation, and community engagement aligns with his goals. "Business education must prepare students to lead in an era defined by digital transformation, global interdependence, and rapid technological change," he said. 

"I look forward to working with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to create opportunities that elevate both the region and our graduates."

Dhillon’s career includes academic appointments across multiple continents and a body of work recognized internationally. He holds a Ph.D. in information systems from the London School of Economics and an honorary doctorate from Örebro University in Sweden.

He has authored more than a dozen books—including a widely used cybersecurity textbook—and published over 100 research papers in top journals. His research has been cited in major outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, CNN, NBC News, and NPR.

He is also listed among the top 2 percent of researchers globally by Stanford University, ranks in the top 0.05 percent of scholars worldwide according to Scholar GPS, and holds the No. 29 global ranking in information security for career-long scholarly impact.

Dhillon will succeed interim dean Steve Schulz, who has led the college over the past year.
