Temple University has named Indian-American healthcare leader Abhinav Rastogi as the next president and CEO of Temple Health, effective Jan. 2, 2026.

Rastogi will succeed Michael A. Young, who is retiring as part of a planned transition. The leadership change follows Temple Health’s established succession framework and supports its long-term strategic goals.

Rastogi currently serves as president and CEO of Temple University Hospital and executive vice president and COO of Temple Health. In his new capacity, he will continue to oversee the hospital while assuming responsibility for the broader health system.

Temple University president John Fry said the appointment reflects confidence in the institution’s internal leadership pipeline. “Abhinav is a Temple Made leader. This internal transition demonstrates stability, strength, and continuity of purpose at Temple Health,” Fry stated.

Over his 23-year tenure at Temple Health, Rastogi has led key initiatives in clinical operations, patient care, and system performance. As head of Temple University Hospital and its campuses—including Main, Jeanes, Episcopal, Temple Women & Families Hospital, and Temple Health–Chestnut Hill Hospital—he has driven improvements that earned national recognition for quality and innovation.

Under his leadership, the Temple Lung Center became the highest-volume lung transplant program in the United States. Rastogi also delivered operational and financial reforms, generating over $100 million in annual impact, and oversaw the integration of Temple Health–Chestnut Hill Hospital and the launch of Temple Women & Families Hospital.

“Abhinav is highly respected within the Temple community, known for his passion, integrity, and shoulder-to-shoulder leadership style. Working with Mike Young and the entire Health System team, Abhinav has played a vital role in meeting Temple Health’s mission and achieving sustainable growth,” he added.

Amy J. Goldberg, Marjorie Joy Katz dean of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, welcomed the decision, noting Rastogi’s alignment with Temple’s mission. “Abhinav Rastogi is an exceptional leader with a deep understanding of Temple’s mission,” Goldberg said.

“Bound by our Temple Made roots, we share a deep connection to this institution and its mission. I look forward to working alongside him to strengthen Temple’s role as a leading academic medical center and to advance excellence in patient care, education, and research that improves health in North Philadelphia and beyond,” he added.

Rastogi has done his Bachelor of Engineering degree at Mumbai University in India. He then advanced his studies at Temple University, earning a joint Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Information Systems (MIS) from the Fox School of Business and Management between 2000 and 2002.
