Sumul Raval named president-elect of New Jersey Medical Society

Indian American neurologist Sumul N. Raval has been elected president-elect of the Medical Society of New Jersey.

Raval’s election reflects broad support from physicians across the state as the organization continues to navigate challenges ranging from policy shifts to workforce pressures and patient access concerns.

A board-certified neurologist and internationally recognized neuro-oncologist, Raval is the founding director of New Jersey’s first comprehensive brain tumor center at Monmouth Medical Center. He is known for his clinical expertise, patient-centered care, and contributions to advancing neurological treatment.

As president-elect, Raval is expected to play a central role in shaping initiatives that support physicians while strengthening patient care across New Jersey. His leadership comes as the society expands efforts to address physician burnout, mental health, and administrative burdens, while advocating for reforms such as streamlined insurance authorization processes.

Founded in 1766, the Medical Society of New Jersey is the oldest professional medical organization in the United States, predating the American Medical Association by more than 80 years. It represents more than 30,000 active physicians and continues to serve as a leading voice for the profession, focusing on protecting the physician-patient relationship and improving healthcare delivery statewide.
