California governor Gavin Newsom appointed Indian American government advisor Vishesh Anand as Senior Advisor at the California Housing and Homelessness Agency.
Before his appointment, Anand served as Senior Advisor at the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency, a role he had held since 2025. The Los Angeles native joined the Governor's Office in 2022 as Deputy Regional Director of External Affairs, overseeing external affairs for Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties while assisting with statewide initiatives. In 2025, he was promoted to Deputy Director of Special Projects.

Before joining the Governor's Office, Anand served as Public Engagement Deputy for Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs in the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti from 2021 to 2022. He previously worked as a Field Deputy for Los Angeles City Councilmember Mike Bonin from 2020 to 2021.
Prior to entering public service, Anand worked in the private sector at Aspiration as a Client Engagement Representative in 2020. He also held multiple positions at Kinetic Society LLC between 2017 and 2020, including Business Analyst, Business Development Officer, and Operations Manager, gaining experience in business development, operations, client engagement, and strategic communications.
Anand has also participated in civic engagement initiatives outside his official duties. Earlier this year, he joined the CAUSE on Campus program at California State University, Los Angeles, where he spoke with students interested in careers in public service and civic leadership.
He also took part in a state delegation that visited Ventura County to assess homelessness response efforts, meeting with local officials and nonprofit partners to review supportive housing sites and homelessness prevention programs.
A graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, Anand earned bachelor's degrees in Economics and Global Studies with a minor in Global Health. He also attended a summer program in International and Global Studies at New York University and completed his schooling at Delhi Public School in India.
The position does not require California Senate confirmation and carries an annual compensation of $140,004. Anand is registered with no party preference.
