Rajat Puri / Premera Blue Cross
Washington-based not-for-profit health insurance company Premera Blue Cross on Dec. 4 appointed Rajat Puri as its new chief operating officer.
Puri will lead the company’s technology and operations teams, overseeing customer service, membership and billing, claims processing, IT, and digital solutions.

“Rajat brings with him a strong point of view on how the right mix of operational process and technology can be leveraged at scale to advance the member and provider healthcare experience,” said Jeffrey Roe, CEO and president of Premera Blue Cross.
“His industry expertise and collaborative nature will be instrumental in building solutions that make healthcare work better for our members,” he added.
Puri said the company’s culture played a decisive role in his decision to join. “From my first interactions with Premera, it was evident the culture of the company was something special,” he said.
“I couldn't pass up the opportunity to do meaningful work in a not-for-profit setting alongside passionate, collaborative teams. I look forward to furthering the company's important mission,” he added.
Puri joins Premera from Carelon Global Solutions, a subsidiary of Elevance Health, where he served as president and P&L leader of a $1 billion business with more than 25,000 employees across the United States, India, the Philippines, Ireland, and Puerto Rico.
Under his leadership, Carelon Global Solutions was recognized among the fastest-growing companies in India and the Philippines and received Great Place to Work certifications.
He previously served as COO of Carelon, overseeing call centers, claims, provider operations, IT, and a broad portfolio that included Carelon RX, Medical Benefits Management, Caremore, Aspire, Behavioral Health and Post Acute Solutions, and Carelon Insights. Earlier in his career, Puri held roles at McKesson, Birlasoft, and Tata Consultancy Services.
Puri holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology in Patiala, India, an MBA in finance from ICFAI Business School in Bangalore, and a chartered financial analyst certification.
He also completed executive leadership programs at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
