Indian-origin radiologist Dr. Ashwin Singh Parihar has been named the 2026 William W. Olmsted Fellow in Radiology Education Journalism by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), recognizing his contributions to radiology research, education and scientific publishing.

Parihar is an assistant professor of radiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. The institute announced the honor on social media, highlighting his growing role in scholarly communication and academic publishing.

The Olmsted Fellowship is a competitive program designed to develop future leaders in radiology education and journalism. Through the fellowship, early-career radiologists gain hands-on experience with RSNA's editorial and publication operations while working closely with journal editors and publishing professionals.

Parihar is a member of MIR's nuclear medicine clinical section, where his research focuses on functional imaging, disease characterization and radiotheranostics, an emerging field that combines diagnostic imaging with targeted therapies.

He is also an active contributor to radiology publishing and peer review. Parihar currently serves as an associate editor for the journal Radiology and has received the publication's Editor's Recognition Award with Distinction in 2024, as well as Special Distinction honors in 2023 and 2025. He has previously served on the Radiology Trainee Editorial Board in both deputy editor and associate editor roles.

Beyond his editorial work, Parihar has earned several national recognitions, including the RSNA Honored Educator Award and the RSNA Trainee Research Prize in 2023. In 2024, he received the RSNA Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award.

He also serves as co-chair of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging's Committee on Quality and Evidence and as an at-large member of the board of directors of the American College of Nuclear Medicine.

"Dr. Parihar has distinguished himself through his accomplishments in research, education, peer review and editorial service, as well as his dedication to advancing nuclear medicine and molecular imaging," said Dr. Christine "Cooky" Menias, editor of RadioGraphics and an alumna of the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, in an RSNA announcement.

The fellowship is named after Dr. William W. Olmsted, who served as editor of RadioGraphics for more than two decades. The program is widely regarded as a pathway for radiologists interested in leadership roles in scientific editing, education and medical publishing.
