Fund for Teachers (FFT), one of the country’s largest investors in PreK–12 educators, announces the appointment of Shital C. Shah to its Board of Directors.

With a career advancing public education and building strategic partnerships, Shah brings invaluable expertise that will strengthen FFT’s mission of empowering teachers through self-designed summer fellowships, FFT said in a release.

Shah responded saying, “I was drawn to FFT because of its mission to support educators’ professional learning and growth, which directly impacts the academic growth of their students.”  Now it is my joy to support and help facilitate these opportunities for more teachers across the country, she added.

Shah currently serves as Senior Advisor to the CEO, Special Initiatives at United Way Worldwide (UWW). Previously, she was Senior Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Education & Director of Strategic Partnerships at the U.S. Department of Education, where she supported Secretary Miguel Cardona on partnership strategies spanning K–12, higher education, and workforce development.

During her tenure, Shah helped launch landmark initiatives including:

  • Engage Every Student Initiative – expanding access to high-quality out-of-school programs through American Rescue Plan funding.
  • National Partnership for Student Success – increasing mentors and tutors in public schools.
  • Elevating the Teaching Profession Campaign – highlighting the importance of educators while driving private-sector commitments to address the teacher workforce shortage.

Throughout her career, Shital has played many roles—from advocate to activist—all in support of education and teaching,” said Karen Eckhoff, FFT Executive Director.
