Deepak Narula / Columbia Business School
Columbia University has named Indian American executive Deepak Narula as a 2026 Class Day speaker for Columbia Business School.
Narula will deliver the address at the MS and PhD Recognition Ceremony on May 16 on the South Lawn of Columbia University’s Morningside campus as part of commencement events this year, the university announced.

A 1989 alumnus of the business school, Narula is founder, managing partner, and co-chief investment officer of Metacapital Management.
He has more than three decades of experience in mortgage trading and investments, including agency and non-agency mortgage-backed securities, asset-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities, commercial real estate debt, and other securitized credit products.
In his current role, Narula oversees the firm’s investment strategy and client communications and contributes to major investment decisions. Before founding Metacapital in 2001, he served as managing director and head of mortgage-backed securities trading desks at Lehman Brothers.
He also led the Mortgage Strategy Group at the firm and was ranked on the Institutional Investor All-American research team for his work on mortgage-backed securities.
Narula holds a doctorate in management science from Columbia University and a bachelor of technology in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He has also taught courses at Columbia Business School.
The MS and PhD ceremony is part of a day of recognition events that will also include a separate ceremony for MBA and EMBA graduates later the same day on the South Lawn. A reception for graduates and their guests is planned on the Manhattanville campus following the ceremonies.
