CA Governor names Vishesh Anand senior advisor of state agency

Anand will serve as Senior Advisor at the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced the appointment of Indian American public policy professional Vishesh Anand has been appointed  as Senior Advisor at the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency. 

The Los Angeles native has been with the Governor’s Office since 2022, most recently as Deputy Director of Special Projects. He was previously  Deputy Regional Director of External Affairs, where he oversaw external affairs for Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties and assisted with statewide projects.

Before joining the governor’s office, Anand worked in Los Angeles city government, serving as Public Engagement Deputy for Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs in the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti from 2021 to 2022, and as a Field Deputy for City Councilmember Mike Bonin from 2020 to 2021. 

He also gained private sector experience at Aspiration in 2020 and at Kinetic Society LLC, where he was Operations Manager and Business Analyst between 2017 and 2020.

Anand has remained active in civic engagement initiatives beyond his official duties. Earlier this year, he took part in the CAUSE on Campus program at California State University, Los Angeles, designed to train students in civic leadership and public service. He was also part of a state delegation that visited Ventura County to assess homelessness response efforts, working with county and city officials as well as nonprofit partners to evaluate supportive housing sites and prevention programs.

A graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, Anand earned a double bachelor’s degree in Economics and Global Studies with a minor in Global Health. He also attended a summer program in International and Global Studies at New York University and completed his schooling at Delhi Public School in India.

The Senior Advisor position carries an annual compensation of $140,004 and does not require Senate confirmation. Anand is registered with no party preference.
