Indian-American trustee Aaruni Thakur has formally announced his intention to resign from the Fullerton School District board at the end of September. This will mark the end of his seven-year tenure as the representative of Trustee Area One.
Elected in 2018, Thakur described his tenure on the board as both “the greatest honor” of his life and “the most exciting professional endeavor.” In a letter addressed to the Fullerton community, he reflected on his experiences as both a student and parent within the district and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to its growth.
During his tenure, Thakur spearheaded initiatives that strengthened mental health, nutrition, and student safety as central board goals. He commended the district’s timely and effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which allowed schools to reopen earlier than many others, mitigating learning loss while safeguarding student well-being.
He further acknowledged the successful passage of Measure N, a bond measure dedicated to the improvement and repair of school facilities, crediting community support and the work of his fellow trustees.
In his message, Thakur extended appreciation to his parents, siblings, and particularly his wife, Pamela, for their unwavering encouragement. He concluded by affirming his pride in the Fullerton community and his intention to remain engaged in local initiatives.
“I am, and always will be, a proud Fullertonian. While I will no longer be serving as a trustee, I am grateful that my family and I will continue to be active members of our Fullerton community,” Thakur wrote.
A lifelong Fullerton resident, Thakur attended Orangethorpe Elementary, Nicolas Junior High, and Sunny Hills High School, where he met his wife, Pamela.
