Trump says he spoke with Modi, reiterates averted India-Pak nuclear war

US President Donald Trump on Oct. 21 said he had spoken with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India to advance trade discussions between the two countries, even as he reiterated that he personally intervened earlier this year to stop an India–Pakistan conflict that was “about to go nuclear.”
At a Diwali celebration in the Oval Office attended by Indian Ambassador Vinay Kwatra and leading Indian American business executives, Trump described his conversation with Modi as “great,” saying the two discussed “trade and a lot of other things.” “We’re working on some great deals between our countries,” he said, calling Modi “a great friend.”
