U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam has urged the Trump administration to ensure the safety and step up efforts to protect and assist 300,000 American citizens stranded in the Middle East amid escalating tensions in the region, amid the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war with Iran
Subramanyam also questioned President Trump and his administration’s planning ahead for this situation, and why measures were not taken to ensure the safety of the U.S. citizens located in the Middle East.

He mentioned that a similar question was asked by reporters, to which Trump responded,
“Well because it happened all very quickly. We thought and I thought maybe more so than most, I could ask Marco, but I thought we were (0:30) going to have a situation where we were going to be attacked. They were getting ready to attack Israel. They were getting ready to attack others.”
Subramanyam mentioned being unsatisfied with the president’s response and spoke further about the issue, which, according to him, is ‘not getting enough attention right now.’

He further opined that with all that military firepower in the region, the government could have given the U.S. citizens in the Middle East some warning rather than asking them to evacuate the region while there is limited assistance, a lack of commercial flights, hotels being target while everything remains under threat.
“This administration is not doing enough to help. We should have seen this coming, so why aren't we valuing American lives more in the region? The administration is just telling them tough luck,” said Subramanyam.
Subramanyam highlighted that the safety and protection of the U.S. citizens in the Middle East should be a ‘national priority,’ arguing that if the nation can spend billions on jets and bombs, it can afford to evacuate its own citizens.
“We need to get serious right now protecting Americans in the Middle East,” concluded Subramanyam.
