Rep. Subramanyam says Hegseth should step down
The Virginia congressman said an inspector general’s findings show Hegseth endangered U.S. personnel and violated federal policy.

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam again urged Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to resign after an inspector general’s review found Hegseth put U.S. service members at risk by sharing sensitive military information on an unsecured personal device.
Subramanyam said the findings confirmed what he first raised in March. He said the watchdog determined Hegseth shared intelligence about troop movements “on a private device using an unsecured commercial app” and violated records retention rules.
“What we presumed back in March has now been proven true by an independent Inspector General,” Subramanyam said. He added that “Secretary Hegseth put our service members in danger” and “has not taken any responsibility for his actions.”
He said there is no indication that Hegseth, the Defense Department, or the administration “have taken sufficient steps to ensure this isn't still happening.”
The Pentagon review, according to two people familiar with the findings, concluded that Hegseth used the Signal app to communicate details of a planned strike against Yemen’s Houthi militants. The report also found he violated policy by relying on his personal device for official business and recommended additional training for Pentagon officials. One person familiar with the report said it did not find Hegseth improperly declassified material.
Subramanyam said the inspector general’s conclusions show Hegseth “is unfit to serve and should resign or be fired.”
“The American people and our men and women in uniform deserve better leadership,” he said. “Sec. Hegseth should come before the Oversight Committee to answer these questions directly and take responsibility for his recklessness.”
