Democratic think tank executive Neera Tanden said federal immigration enforcement treats Asian Americans as foreigners even when they are U.S.-born, reacting to reports that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were targeting people of Asian descent during recent operations.

Tanden posted her comments on X on Jan. 16 after sharing video from a Democratic shadow hearing chaired by Reps. Pramila Jayapal and Ilhan Omar, where St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her described fear within the Asian American community linked to alleged ICE activity.
