Laura Loomer accuses Mamdani of Islamifying NYC
The criticism followed the mayor’s remarks on Islam and immigration at the city’s annual interfaith breakfast.

Far-right influencer Laura Loomer has accused New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani of attempting to “Islamify” the city following remarks he made at the city’s annual interfaith breakfast.
Mamdani referenced Islam while discussing immigration in his speech, saying, “I consider my own faith, Islam, a religion built upon a narrative of migration. The story of the Hijra reminds us that Prophet Muhammad was a stranger too, who fled Mecca and was welcomed in Medina.”

Reacting to the remarks in a post on X, Loomer wrote that Mamdani was “Islamifying New York,” adding that he was “using Islam to justify mass immigration and his policies in opposition to ICE.”
She accused the mayor of promoting mass immigration and opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) through what she described as religious messaging.

She also objected to Mamdani’s use of Arabic phrases during the speech and asserted that Muslims should be barred from holding public office in the United States, remarks that drew criticism online for being explicitly anti-Muslim.
Mamdani framed his comments on Islam alongside references to Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism, describing immigrant protection as a shared moral responsibility across faith traditions. He also sharply criticized ICE operations, calling the agency “a manifestation of the abuse of power.”
During his speech, Mamdani announced a new executive order limiting ICE access to city-owned property, including schools, shelters and hospitals, without a judicial warrant. The order also seeks to protect city-held personal data from unlawful federal access and mandates audits of city agencies’ interactions with immigration authorities.
Mamdani said the executive order applies to all New Yorkers and is intended to strengthen public safety, protect privacy and ensure compliance with city law.
