Krishnamoorthi Condemns ‘Friendly Fire’ Collision in South China Sea as Dangerous Escalation

The incident occurred near Scarborough Shoal, inside the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone.

Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party has condemned Aug.11 collision between a Chinese Navy destroyer and a China Coast Guard cutter in the South China Sea, calling it a dangerous escalation of Beijing’s maritime aggression.

“This accident marks China’s first ‘friendly fire’ maritime collision and a dangerous escalation, underscoring the CCP’s increasingly aggressive drive to seize control of its illegal maritime claims,” Krishnamoorthi said in a statement.
