JHU Shakti wins national dance championship
They became the first team from a private university to win the national title.

Johns Hopkins University’s Indian classical dance team, Shakti, won first place at the 2024 Origins National Dance Championship held in Chicago last month.
The team’s Bharatanatyam-based routine, choreographed by co-captains Ananya Ashok, Maya Britto, and Simren Shah, told the story of a young girl who defies caste-based temple restrictions and is ultimately killed for her act of resistance.
