The number of Indian visitors to the United States fell sharply in June 2025, marking the first such decline in more than two decades outside the Covid-19 years.
Data from the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) showed that 210,000 Indians traveled to America in June, an 8 percent drop from 230,000 in the same month last year. Provisional figures for July also indicate a slowdown, with arrivals down 5.5 percent compared to July 2024.

The decline mirrors a broader contraction in international arrivals to the United States. NTTO data recorded non-resident visitor volume falling 6.2 percent in June, 7 percent in May, 8 percent in March and 1.9 percent in February. Only January and April showed gains of 4.7 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively.
India remains the fourth-largest source of international arrivals. Excluding Canada and Mexico, which share land borders with the U.S., India ranks as the second-largest overseas market after the United Kingdom, with Brazil rounding out the top five. NTTO noted, “Combined, these top five source markets accounted for 59.4 percent of total international arrivals in June.”
The fall in arrivals comes as the U.S. tourism sector faces global headwinds. Major destinations including Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Buffalo have already reported significant drops in visitor numbers. Analysts attribute the downturn to restrictive travel policies, trade frictions and a tougher visa regime under President Donald Trump’s second term.
Adding to the pressure, Washington is set to introduce a new “visa integrity fee” of $250, raising the overall cost of a U.S. visa to about $442. Combined with longer processing times and stricter eligibility rules, the move is expected to weigh further on inbound travel from non–visa waiver countries such as India, Brazil, China and Argentina.
