Indian software professional among migrants cleaning streets in Russia

Indian migrant workers engaged in cleaning and maintenance work overseas are not uncommon, but recent reports of a young Indian software professional working on the streets of Russia have drawn public attention. 

Mukesh Mandal, a 26-year-old Indian national who claims to have earlier worked in the software sector, is currently part of a group of Indian migrants employed in street-cleaning and maintenance work in St. Petersburg, Russia. According to reports carried by Russia’s app-based media platform Fontanka, Mandal earns roughly US$1100 (INR1 lakh) a month under a contract that includes accommodation and meals.
