A 35-year-old software engineer from India was found dead at Microsoft’s campus in Silicon Valley on Aug. 20.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner said the cause of death is pending. However, Mountain View Police confirmed that there were no signs of suspicious activity or behavior, and the case is not being treated as a criminal investigation.

Pandey was part of Microsoft’s engineering team working on Fabric and Synapse, data analytics platforms competing with companies such as Snowflake Inc. He reported directly to Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of Cloud and AI at Microsoft.

Before joining Microsoft in 2020, he worked at Walmart Labs, Apple, and Illumina, and earlier began his career in India with Newgen Software in Noida and John Deere in Pune. He earned his undergraduate degree in India, followed by advanced degrees from California State University and San Jose State University.

In a social media post, Satish Chandra, a Santa Clara City Council candidate, wrote, “It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we share the tragic news of the untimely passing of Pratik Pandey… His sudden departure has left all of us in shock and mourning.”

Chandra also said that Microsoft took nearly 42 hours to inform the community of the death and called on Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen to conduct a full investigation.
