An Indian national on May 20 pleaded guilty to orchestrating fake armed robberies to help victims qualify for non-immigrant visas.
The sentencing of Rambhai Patel, 37, is scheduled for August 20.
Federal prosecutors said beginning in March 2023, Patel and his alleged co-conspirator set up and carried out staged armed robberies of at least nine convenience/liquor stores and fast-food restaurants across the United States – including at least five in Massachusetts.
