Announcing headway in the investigation of 2017 double homicide of mother-son duo, Sasikala Narra, 38, and Anish Narra, 6, in  Maple Shade, New Jersey, the Burlington County authorities have announced that Indian national Nazeer Hameed has been charged for both murders, on Nov. 18.

In March 2017, a man returned to his New Jersey apartment and discovered his 38-year-old wife, Sasikala Narra, and their 6-year-old son, Anish, stabbed to death. Both victims had multiple stab wounds and defensive injuries, indicating they fought back. Investigators described the crime scene as "brutal" and hard to forget.

The authorities alleged that the accused, Hameed, a 38-year-old Indian national who was working in the U.S. on a visa, returned to India six months after committing the crime. The prosecutors are currently seeking Hameed's extradition back to the U.S.

Autopsy reports indicated the brutality of the two murders, multiple stab wounds were observed on both bodies, with the 6-year-old being nearly decapitated from the attack.

“The scene that day was unimaginable,” Maple Shade Police Chief Christopher J. Fletcher said. “Those who responded saw the carnage of a mother and her young child who spent their final moments fighting for their lives,” he added.

Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw said, “Our message today is clear – we do not forget, we do not forgive, and we do not stop pursuing those who take innocent lives.”

She added, “Justice is sometimes delayed based on the challenges of each case, but justice must always prevail, and it certainly will in this case.”

Hameed allegedly lived in the same apartment complex as the Narras. Hameed and Narra both worked for the same company, Cognizant Technology Solutions, which was hired to perform consulting work for a Philadelphia-based business. Investigators started suspecting Hameed after it was reported that he had been allegedly stalking Sasikala Narra's husband for a significant amount of time, before the attack. However, the motive for the alleged attack remains unclear.

An extradition treaty between the United States and India has been in effect since 1999. The bilateral agreement provides the legal framework for the two countries to cooperate in the surrender of individuals accused or convicted of crimes that meet specific criteria.
