Billionaire Indian entrepreneur Siddharth Shankar has invested $500,000 in Arya Ventures, a seed-stage venture capital fund dedicated to supporting Indian-origin entrepreneurs in the UK and US, who are building the next generation of tech companies.
The investment by Shankar, who is the Global Chief Operating Officer of Komerz, represents a significant milestone for the $10 million fund, founded by Anmol Goel.
The fund’s thesis stands on compelling market data, with Indian immigrants having founded or co-founded 72 of the 358 unicorns that emerged in the United States since 2018, collectively valued at over $195 billion. While being among 2.1 percent of the US population, they've created 19 percent of American unicorns.
In a LinkedIn post announcing his investment, Shankar mentioned notable Indian-origin founders who have built multiple unicorns, like Siddharth Shankar (Tails Group), Mohit Aron (Nutanix, Cohesity), Jyoti Bansal (AppDynamics, Harness), and Ashutosh Garg (Bloomreach, Eightfold.ai).
“The talent is undeniable. The track record speaks for itself. The timing is perfect. Excited to support exceptional entrepreneurs from our community who are building the future of tech,” Shankar wrote on Instagram.
According to Shankar, Arya's current portfolio is already showing strong returns, and their investments are scaling quickly, attracting follow-on funding at significant valuation increases.
Arya Ventures is currently reviewing terms with multiple high-potential startups in its pipeline, including companies already backed by Y Combinator and other leading venture capital firms.
The fund’s strategy focuses on AI and technology startups, capitalizing on the concentration of Indian-origin talent in cutting-edge sectors.
