Indian Embassy to host Yoga Day celebration at Lincoln Memorial

The event is being organized as part of the worldwide observance of International Day of Yoga.

The Embassy of India in Washington, D.C., will celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 19 at the Lincoln Memorial, bringing together participants for what it describes as the largest yoga gathering of the year.

Observed globally on June 21, International Day of Yoga promotes yoga as a holistic approach to physical, mental and emotional well-being. The 2026 theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," highlights the role of yoga in supporting healthy, active and balanced lives across all age groups.

The event is being organized as part of the worldwide observance of International Day of Yoga and aligns with the Yoga 365 initiative, which encourages year-round yoga practice.

According to the Embassy, the outdoor yoga session will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Memorial and will be accessible via the Foggy Bottom-GWU and Smithsonian Metro stations.

The Embassy noted that people of all ages are welcome to participate and that no prior yoga experience is required.

Inviting the public to attend, the Embassy said on X, "Join us for the largest yoga session of the year!"

Sharing further details, it added, "Celebrate the International Day of Yoga 2026 under the theme 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing' with an outdoor session at the iconic Lincoln Memorial on Friday, June 19, 2026."

Across the United States, Indian diplomatic missions are marking the 12th International Day of Yoga with a series of large-scale community events under the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing."

Indian missions have described these celebrations as part of a broader effort to promote yoga as a tool for physical, mental and emotional well-being while strengthening cultural ties and community engagement.

The events are being organized in collaboration with local organizations, yoga practitioners, health care advocates and community groups as part of the global observance of International Day of Yoga 2026.
