California's Hindus are delighted to note that Diwali will be added to the list of official state holidays. It is a celebration of victory over evil by members of the Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh and Jain faith.

Of note, the joy of this celebration is dampened by the rapid Rise in anti-Hindu Hate Crimes as in the 'Condemn Hinduphobia, and Attacks on Hindu Places of Worship' Act house-resolution/69/. Freedom of religious practice is under increasing threat by a disturbing and accelerating trend of vandalism, desecration, and violent attacks targeting Hindu temples across the United States as noted in Indian American lawmakers urge DOJ to address 'alarming' rise of Hindu temple vandalism

Importantly, the passage of California SB 509 has posed another threat to Hindu Californians. This bill purports to teach California's police officers/first responders a biased curriculum that creates suspicion against Hindus. Question remains: Will Governor Newsom Veto SB 509?
