The South Asian Coalition successfully attracted over 300 attendees for a grassroots meet-and-greet event featuring New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli on Aug. 25.

The event, hosted by community leader Pavan Kuchana, featured remarks from Ciattarelli as well as speeches by coalition leaders. Organizers highlighted both the importance of grassroots participation and the need to increase voter turnout among South Asians, who represent a significant but often under-engaged bloc in New Jersey politics.

Ciattarelli, accompanied by Anita Kothari, outlined his policy agenda and administration plans, emphasizing their relevance for South Asian families and businesses. His speech drew multiple rounds of applause. During a question-and-answer session, independent voters pressed him on issues ranging from economic growth to education, receiving direct responses that highlighted his campaign’s focus on transparency and voter engagement.

Sridhar Chillara, chairman of the South Asian Coalition, opened the program with a call for stronger civic engagement.  “This gathering reflects the energy and enthusiasm of our community and the strong voter turnout we expect. The South Asian Coalition has been setting the pace with meet-and-greets, fundraisers, and grassroots initiatives across the state. The momentum we are seeing is historic — created by the actions and passion of our community.”

Executive leaders, including Dharmesh Patel, Sarvesh Dharayan, and Sunita Krosuri spoke about grassroots organizing efforts. The coalition also announced the formation of a Sri Lankan leadership wing, expanding its representation and inclusivity across the South Asian diaspora.

The South Asian Coalition has been active across New Jersey with fundraisers and community events aimed at building momentum ahead of November’s election. Organizers said turnout signaled not only enthusiasm for Ciattarelli’s campaign but also the rising role of South Asians in shaping the state’s political future.
