Flushing Town Hall to organize Diwali celebration in Queens

The celebration is curated to be an immersive experience which would help families experience various facets of Indian culture.

The Flushing Town Hall, in collaboration with Guru Krupa Foundation, will organize its 11th annual Diwali Celebrations on Oct. 18 in Flushing, Queens, New York.

The lineup for the celebration boasts of several cultural performances and workshops where attendees can immerse themselves in Indian culture and tradition. It will also feature Indian food, Kathak dance, classical Indian music, and art for audiences of all ages.

Kathak classical dancer Abha B. Roy and her Srijan Dance Company will perform at the event. This would be followed by a sitar recital from Pt. Kinnar Seen, accompanied by Dr. Naren Budhkar on tabla.

Gabrielle M. Hamilton, Director of Education and Public Programs at Flushing Town Hall talked about the upcoming event and said, "For our Diwali Festival, we're bringing master teaching artists to the general public to lead hands-on workshops in Indian dance and art."

She further said, “This is a unique opportunity for families to learn about rich and colorful Diwali traditions together. It's a joyful and immersive experience that should not be missed!"

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn Indian classical and folk dance steps and also try their hands at block printing with Dr. Alka Mukerji, and rangoli art with Dr. Anju G. Modak.

Chef Nupur and Queens Curry Kitchen will be serving Indian food to the attendees. Along with it, she will also present an opportunity for the attendees to learn how to prepare a few traditional dishes during a cooking demonstration.

Guests can also get a henna tattoo with Bella Beauty, try their hand at Hindi calligraphy, and enjoy more cultural delights during the celebrations.
