Cultural non-profit Hum Sub organized 'Hum Sub Diwali 2025', the organization's annual Diwali celebration, in North Carolina, on Oct. 11. The key attraction of the event was the 'Celebrity Segment' of the celebration.

A now viral video of Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht and Morrisville Mayor TJ Cawley dancing to Bollywood songs has taken social media by storm.

The Celebrity Segment, introduced a few years ago, has grown into a crowd favorite. Local leaders rehearse for weeks, donning colorful costumes sponsored by community businesses, and showcasing the joy of shared cultural connection through music and dance. This year, it featured the two mayors, along with other council members and performers from Taal Harmony Dance Group.

Held at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre, the one day celebration offered an immersive experience of Indian culture in the American South.

Attended by over 15,000 people, the celebration presented a rich lineup of classical, folk, and Bollywood performances, along with food stalls, artisan vendors, and a cultural exhibition highlighting India’s diverse heritage.

Expressing his love for the festivities, Mayor Cawley said on Instagram, "Hum Sub Diwali is always one of my favorite events of the year and I had a great time dancing with staff and fellow elected officials from Cary and Morrisville"

This year's celebration also marked 25 years of Hum Sub Diwali. Over the past many years, Hum Sub's celebration of the festival has become a staple of Carolina's Diwali lineup, blending tradition, inclusion, and togetherness.
