The Aligarh Alumni Association of Washington, DC (AAA-DC) held its annual summer picnic last week at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The event was attended by alumni, families, and community members, providing an opportunity for networking and social interaction.
The picnic featured children’s games, informal discussions among alumni, and a community potluck meal, along with barbecue and the association’s traditional “pateeli chai.” Senior alumni shared experiences from their Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) days, while younger members engaged in conversations focused on professional guidance and community involvement.

A notable moment of the gathering was the singing of AMU’s Tarana, “Yeh Mera Chaman,” led by Masood Farshori. The audience participation reflected the alumni community’s continued connection to the university’s traditions.
Mohammad Abdullah, Second Secretary at the Embassy of India, commended AAA-DC for its role in fostering collaboration among community organizations.
AAA-DC president Afzal Usmani thanked attendees, volunteers, and families for their contributions. He also distributed custom-printed AAA-DC T-shirts, which were brought from India for the occasion.
