FIA, Indian Consulate mark Women’s Day in New York / Courtesy Photo
The Federation of Indian Associations and the Consulate General of India, New York, held its 8th Annual International Women’s Day celebration on March 6 at India House in New York City.
This event recognizes women leaders from the Indian diaspora who have crossed hurdles and have inspired communities in the U.S. through their achievements and contributions in different sectors like business, media, finance, and social entrepreneurship.

The event was emceed by Riddhi Parikh Patel, who commenced the event by observing a moment of silence to remember Radha Subramanyam, a previous award winner who recently passed away.
FIA’s new President, Sreekanth Akkapalli, who took office on Jan. 1, addressed attendees and spoke about the organization’s programs involving women in the community.
He then congratulated the award winners on behalf of FIA Chairman Ankur Vaidya, the Board, Trustees, and Executive Committee.
Following his speech, Akkapalli introduced Ambassador Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, India’s Consul General in New York, as the special guest for the event.
Pradhan spoke about government initiatives, like ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ and ‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana,’ in India related to women’s education and economic participation.
Honorees at the event received certificates of recognition from Governor Kathy Hochul, along with sashes and trophies presented by FIA.
Jody Lynne Herkloz, COO of Northstar Strategies, called on women to uplift each other, while Balpreet Grewal-Virk, the Senior Vice President of Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health, credited FIA for its work in building the community.
Other speakers included actor Reshma Shetty and the first Deputy Commissioner of the NYPD, Tania Kinsella.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Srishti Kaul Narula, General Secretary of FIA, followed by a dinner reception.
