Saritha Komatireddy, Republican candidate for New York Attorney General (AG), has vowed a strong crackdown on terrorism following March 7’s improvised explosive device (IED) attack outside Gracie Mansion.

The incident took place during a protest outside the official residence of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, where two Pennsylvania men hurled homemade explosives containing TATP and shrapnel at the scene.

Authorities described the suspects as self-radicalized individuals with connections to ISIS and confirmed that the devices were capable of causing serious injury or death if they had detonated.

Komatireddy argued that Islamic extremism remains a persistent threat in New York more than two decades after 9/11 and must be confronted directly. Calling out the city's reaction, she said, “The fact that the Mayor cannot immediately call out terrorism for what it is, and the Attorney General is totally silent, is a problem.”

The former federal terrorism prosecutor said, "As a federal terrorism prosecutor, I spent my career putting extremists like this in supermax prison.”

She pledged that, if elected, she would surge state resources to the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force, ensure federal partners receive necessary support for charges, and stand ready to pursue state-level prosecutions.

Komatireddy claimed that the “Attorney General’s job is simple” and that they must “protect every New Yorker, regardless of race, religion, or politics, and pursue criminals evenhandedly, regardless of race, religion, or politics,” she wrote.

“That means calling out the problem, confronting it directly, and prosecuting criminals without hesitation.”

Law enforcement, including the FBI and Joint Terrorism Task Force, continues to investigate potential wider connections. No injuries were reported from the incident, but it has heightened concerns about protest safety and domestic extremism in the city.
