New Indian restaurant Malabar to open in Washington

It will replace the existing Rosedale restaurant in Jan. 2026, introducing coastal Indian cuisine.

A new Indian restaurant, Malabar, will open in Washington’s Forest Hills neighborhood in mid-Jan. 2026, replacing Knightsbridge Restaurant Group’s Rosedale, which will close in mid-Dec. 2025.

The restaurant, located at 4465 Connecticut Avenue NW near the Van Ness UDC Metro station, will offer dinner service and Sunday brunch. 

Malabar draws its name from India’s southwestern Malabar Coast, a historic center of the global spice trade. The space will undergo a redesign featuring new artwork in the 100-seat dining room and a tropical update to the 30-seat patio ahead of summer.

Restaurateur and Knightsbridge Restaurant Group founder and CEO Ashok Bajaj said Malabar is envisioned as a neighborhood gathering place. "Malabar is designed to be a neighborhood gathering place with exciting fare that transports guests to India’s southern west coast region for an evening of dining," he said, noting that a U-shaped bar will anchor the room and a private dining area will be available for celebrations. 

Group executive chef Vikram Sunderam, known for his work at Rasika, Rasika West End, Bindaas, and Bindaas Bowls and Rolls, will lead the culinary program. Sunderam, who has been with the group for 20 years, previously co-authored the book 'Rasika: Flavors of India' with Bajaj and David Hagedorn. 

Malabar joins Knightsbridge Restaurant Group’s lineup of Washington dining spots, including Rasika, Bombay Club, Sababa, Annabelle, La Bise, Bindaas, and Little Blackbird, adding another neighborhood-focused concept to its portfolio.
