The supernatural thriller 'Mala' will make its public debut at New York Comic Con with a spotlight panel on Oct. 11. The event, set for 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Javits Center, marks the first Indian-themed panel in the convention’s history.
The Oct. 11 panel will be the first time material from the original independent feature has been made public.
The discussion will be led by the Indian mother-daughter producing team of Indigo and Nisha Sabharwal. Attendees will see the first film clips released to the public and receive exclusive giveaway items. Cast members and filmmakers will discuss the making of the film and the themes it explores.

'Mala' follows Reema, who inherits an abandoned resort on a remote tropical island. When she and her friends travel there, they encounter unsettling locals, unusual rituals, and ominous warnings. Reema begins to suspect her aunt’s death was not accidental. As she investigates further, she uncovers links between her family’s past and an ancient curse involving tantric practices. Haunted by visions and messages from her late mother, Reema faces questions of betrayal, survival, and identity.
The panel will feature Indigo Sabharwal in the title role, alongside Raw Leiba (The Walking Dead), Gisele George (The College Tour), Nikhil Kamkolkar (Love, Love), and Nehru Sabharwal. Behind the camera, Nisha Sabharwal, known for her work on Draupadi Unleashed as author, screenwriter, co-director and producer, is joined by director Trishul Thejasvi.
“This has been a true passion project from the start, giving us the opportunity to expose deep, suspenseful, enthralling themes of Indian mythos and lore across a gripping film,” said Nisha Sabharwal in a statement to mark the announcement.
She added, “We’re very excited to have our official launch at New York Comic Con, and to offer fans an altogether new, otherworldly approach to a tried and true genre.”
