Diljit Dosanjh earns first International Emmy nomination
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations in New York, placing Dosanjh in the Best Performance by an Actor category.

Indian actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh earned his first-ever International Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Punjabi folk legend Amar Singh Chamkila in Imtiaz Ali’s Netflix film Amar Singh Chamkila.
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations in New York, placing Dosanjh in the Best Performance by an Actor category. The film itself, which released on April 12, 2024, has also been nominated in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category.

Dosanjh reacted to the news by sharing the announcement on Instagram, crediting director Imtiaz Ali for the milestone. “It’s all because of @imtiazaliofficial sir,” he wrote in his post, adding the International Emmy badge to a picture of himself as Chamkila. The actor has consistently linked the film’s success to its authenticity and the director’s vision.
Imtiaz Ali also celebrated the nominations with a post on Instagram, sharing stills from the film and writing, “Congratulations to Diljit and the team of Amar Singh Chamkila for the International Emmy nominations.” He added that the recognition belonged to the entire team and thanked viewers for embracing Chamkila’s story.
The Netflix biographical drama traces the life of Punjabi folk icon Amar Singh Chamkila, from his Dalit Sikh upbringing and days as a factory worker to becoming one of Punjab’s most popular and controversial singers, known for bold lyrics on love, desire, and social taboos, before his assassination at the age of 27 along with his wife Amarjot.
The 53rd International Emmy Awards ceremony will be held in New York City on Nov. 24. Dosanjh will compete in the Best Actor category against David Mitchell from the UK, Oriol Pla from Spain, and Diego Vasquez from Colombia.
